Confused? CBD, Hemp & Marijuana In A Nutshell

Hemp Marijuana

We frequently got asked about the difference between hemp and marijuana. And there is a lot of confusion about the benefits and harm, along with abbreviations such as CBD and THC. Confused yet? Hemp products do not necessary have the benefits of CBD either. To help you pick the right products for your dogs by arming you with the necessary information, let us break it down in a quick summary for you here.

Are hemp and marijuana the same?

They are both from the same plant species called Cannabis Sativa L. They both contain a wide spectrum of cannabinoid concentrations, including THC and CBD. But they are different plants.

Is hemp and marijuana product safe for my dog?

If they are made for pets and label as such by reputable companies, yes, they are safe. They are specially made without the THC component that is harmful to pets. So far we have not seen any pet products made from marijuana yet though.

What is CBD?

CBD is short for Cannabidiol, a compound that has significant medical benefits. CBD does not make people or pets feel “stoned”. There are numerous studies in the medical field that show CBD’s potential as a treatment for a wide range of conditions, including arthritis, diabetes, alcoholism, MS, chronic pain, schizophrenia, PTSD, depression, antibiotic-resistant infections, epilepsy and other neurological disorders. Its benefits for pets is proving to be equally promising.

What is THC?

THC is short for Tetrahydrocannabinol. This is the part of the plant that gets you and your pets high. Pet products should not have any THC concentrations at all because of various negative side effects.

I bought some Hemp products. Do they contain CBD with all its great health benefits?

It depends. The product label should specify the amount of CBD per dosage or serving on it in milligrams (“mg”). Example: CBD 3 mg per dropper or treat. Pay attention that if it says “Hemp Oil 5mg”, it does not mean it contains 5mg of CBD. It just mean 5mg of hemp oil. So, if it does not say “CBD x-amount in mg”, most likely it just has all the great benefits of hemp but short of the medicinal properties that CBD could help with seizure, chronic pain and cancer just to name a few. So if you are looking for products containing CBD to help with cancer or seizure, products such as hemp cooking oil, hemp seeds, hemp essential oil and hemp pet treats that do not specify CBD concentration in “mg” at all on the labels are not the right choice.

A word of caution, if you see a hemp product claiming to be of great health benefit, at a very low price, more than likely it does not contain CBD. Products that contain any amount of CBD concentration is usually sold at a much higher price point. How much more? It will jump out at you, trust us … lol.

What does full spectrum hemp oil means?

Full spectrum hemp oil refers to when the pure oil extracted from hemp contains all the same cannabinoids and compounds found in the original hemp plant. Unlike CBD isolates, full spectrum hemp oil contains an array of cannabinoids including CBD, CBG, CBN as well as many essential vitamins and minerals, fatty acids, protein, chlorophyll, fiber, flavonoids and terpenes. Everything to work together as nature intended. To be an informed user, we do recommend buying products that specify the amount of CBD in “mg” on the label instead of just say “full spectrum” to make sure your pet is getting the right amount for the desired benefit.

I bought some Hemp products. Do they contain THC? Will they get me or my dog high?

Most likely not. But always ask and check the labels and ask the sellers.
